Comments: Hi, I filled this out last week but see that there was some kind of a problem with the receiving computer. O.K. I'll make it brief. Was a good friend of CDR Bob Crow (deceased). In fact I relieved him as Ordnance Officer at COMFAIRWESTPAC Staff in 1974, and Bob went back to the West Coast. He was Weapons Officer at NAS North Island and I at NAS Alameda when we both retired (1978/79). I was the guy that coined the AO motto, We are the Arms of the Fleet, Peace Through Power. Went to Germany for eight years in 1988 and just returned this past April (96). Bought a home on Camano Island (next to Whidbey) and would like to get active again in the AO Association. When do you have your next convention. It used to be about the3rd week in June, generally in Reno. I will today mail off a reapplication for membership. It lapsed while I was in Europe the past eight years. Would like to join the AO Chapter at Whidbey Island.

Comments: The history of Miramar continues as the Marines of the 3rd Marine Air Wing come on strong. Officially an MCAS on 1 Oct. 1997, we are now home to MAG-11 with eight Hornet squadrons. Soon the wing headquarters will move down from El Toro. In addition, MAG-16 is inbound with several squadrons of CH-46 'S AND ch-53 'S. The NAWCWPNS Det. carries on the Miramar tradition of weapons technical support and service to the fleet.

Comments: I served with VP-2 from 1965-68 out of Whidbey Island. I first flew with crew 5 and then crew 8. Crew 8 won the Whidbey Island Totem Pole competition in 1967 at Whidbey. Our crew was also involved in the largest naval battle of the Vietnam war. On 02-29-68 into the early AM hours of 03-01-68, 3 chicom trawlers were sunk and 2 turned away. Crew 8 was tracking the trawler that was sunk north of Nha Trang. We were on the target from its initial run inside the 12 mile limit throughout the ensuing battle. It was a fierce battle with Navy brown water swift boats, a dragon ship, us and I believe there was a DD offshore. F4's came in and reduced the surrounding hills to a very flat area. The next day we went back and took recon photos. Stars & Stripes reported recovering numerous weapons & ammunitions along with 14 enemy bodies on the beach and in the ships hull. Crew 8 was then sent to Iwakuni to fly patrols when the Pueblo first got captured by North Korea. We flew about 8 to 10 Patrols with more ordnace than we ever carried in country. I've been a member of AAO for several years. I made it to 2 squadron reunions, 1 at Whidbey, 1 at San Jose. I plan on being at Whidbey in August for our next one. I would really like to get to an AAO convention some day. I enjoy the Red Shirt. Keep up the good work, IYAOYAS, you gotta love it!

USS America (learned nothing, already knew it all by then)
It's been a blast, I made lots of good friends (but none like my
crew on the America, the only folks who ever really understood me and
supported me as much as I supported them. You guys know who you are (and who

you as soon as I'm done with them.

Comments: HI my time in went from june 02 of 1988 to june 05 of 1998 where I served
on the USS Forrestal cv-59 from 05 jan 89 as both an AO and an undesignated
airman in Air dept V-1 division (decided to get a safer job after I almost
walked off the bow of the ship while in the middle of the med. at night. :)
I didnt goto the med to get ran over by an 80,000 ton carrier.) I left the
Forrestal in nov of 91. My next command was the USS Carl Vinson cvn-70 where
I worked in various areas: aft bomb assy and ran both berthings at the same
time, then I was TAD to the security where I worked in the ships brig. (no I
wasnt a guest :) ) after the Carl Vinson I went to Nas Alameda where I mainly
mowed lawns and chased jackrabbits as well as running the Base armory and
being the only quallified semi truck driver on the base. I was here from
about oct of 94 til mar of 1997> My final Command was the USS Constellation
cv-64 where I worked in AWSE and was TAD to Nas North Island after the 97
westpac were the promptly put me in a forced air respirator and stuck me in a
sandblasting booth where I made paint (and a few other things) disapear.
after having been forced seperated I am now driving for Trism specialized
transport where I am Hauling heavy equipment. If you know me e-mail me if
